Samsung Galaxy Note 10 leak hints at no headphone jack

The launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is just around the corner. Samsung's latest phablet is set to be unveiled at a Samsung Unpacked event in New York on 7 August. With the launch date fast approaching, rumours regarding the phablet’s anticipated specs, features and design are abounding.

The most recent insight we’ve got into the Galaxy Note 10 involves its headphone jack – or lack thereof. An image of a dongle, reportedly that accompanying the Note 10, has been doing the rounds, depicting a 3.5mm to USB Type-C dongle, dropping a serious hint that the Note 10 will not feature a conventional headphone jack.

If the update does come to fruition, it’ll mean Samsung is joining the likes of Apple and Google in consigning the 3.5mm headphone jack to smartphone history. But it’s not a welcome change for consumers, who are often left dismayed when their wired headphones are no longer readily compatible with their smartphone. Carrying a converter cable around with you all the time is a faff, while forgetting it is just downright frustrating.

And while the Bluetooth headphone industry has some pretty stellar options to consider , sometimes you’ll just want the old-school reliability of a pair of plug-in headphones or earbuds.

To soften what’s set to be a pretty irritating blow, Samsung is rumoured to be including the 3.5mm to USB Type-C dongle in the box along with the handset itself, so customers won’t have to fork out any extra cash for the near-essential add-on. That’s particularly true given the Note 10’s suspected price point, which is rumoured to be in the quadruple figures.
