Olympus has confirmed that the super-slim PEN E-PL6 compact system camera will be heading to the UK later this month, after previously being exclusive to the company's native Japan. When it arrives, it will include a wireless FlashAir SD card for transferring photos and videos to a smartphone or tablet over Wi-Fi.
The all-metal E-PL6 looks set to be one of the smallest and lightest PEN yet, thanks to the M.ZUIKO 14-42mm pancake zoom lens bundled with the camera. It's the world's slimmest Micro four thirds zoom lens, with a 3.5-5.6 aperture and 28-84mm 35mm equivalent. According to Olympus, compact system cameras don't get any slimmer, although Panasonic's Lumix GM1 would be take the title if it shipped with the former's diminutive lens.
The E-PL6 is set to replace the E-PL5 , which was first released in 2012. Differences include a minimum ISO of 100, compared to 200 on the E-PL5, the addition of interval shooting, and the bundled FlashAir SD card for making sharing images to Facebook and Twitter much easier when your'e away from a PC.
It has a 16.1-megapixel Live MOS imaging sensor, paired with Olympus' TruePic VI processor. Combined, the E-PL6 is capable of 16-megapixel stills at a top ISO of 25,600 and 1080p video recording. 18 creative filters come pre-installed, while the 3in tilt and swivel LCD screen on the back should make shot composition a breeze.
The Pen E-PL6 should be going on sale here in the UK from mid-July onwards, with an expected retail price of £429.99.
