LG G Flex 2 revealed and it’s sticking with the ridiculously bent design

The LG G Flex was a curiously curved Android smartphone with a self-healing cover. Announced today, the LG G Flex 2 is…a curiously curved Android smartphone with a self-healing cover.

So what’s different? The original G Flex – which really sounds like a gangster fitness routine – had a 6 inch screen. The LG G Flex 2 has slimmed down to a more pocket-friendly 5.5 inch screen but is higher resolution at 1080p.

LG says the screen on the G Flex 2 will be more durable too. It’s chemically treated Corning Gorilla Glass to apparently produce a 20 percent tougher panel. The self-healing coating on the rear of the phone remains but will apparently regenerate even faster than before.

Inside, the G Flex 2 is packing Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor with 2GB of RAM and support for LTE Category 6. If you want speed, this phone should give it to you.

Our review of the original G Flex was hard on the disappointing camera but it looks like the G Flex 2 should perform better. The same 13MP laster auto-focus camera used for the LG G3 is inside the new phone.

The LG G Flex 2’s improved specs certainly look promising but we’re still not entirely sold on that curved form factor. There’s no firm word yet on when we can expect to see the bendy beast in the wild but we’ll keep you updated.

Replacing a single Apple AirPod will cost you $69

Apple’s AirPods have some nifty tricks to make wireless pairing easy, but they don’t do anything special to keep them from losing them. Now we know how much a replacement bud will cost if you lost it:  $69, according to Apple’s support page (as spotted by Apple Insider )

The same price goes for the included charging case. Considering that the headset costs $159 total, you’d almost be better off just buying a new headset should you lose two of the three pieces. Still, the up charge is a little understandable considering shipping costs and such.

If you just want to replace the battery on your AirPods – say, if they’ve gotten weaker over the months -it will cost you $49 bucks.

So yeah, try not to lose them; Apple products don’t come cheap.

Xiaomi teases its first metal smartphone with steel invites ahead of July 22 launch event

Popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is holding a launch event on July 22, and things are getting more interesting after the company unveiled photos of its invitation letters today. Each letter is made of a real piece of steel and modeled after a smartphone, which is a very obvious hint that it will be announcing a next-generation flagship smartphone made of metal, which should be dubbed the Mi 4 (following after the Mi 3 ).

UPDATE: Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has all but confirmed a metal smartphone by revealing on a Weibo posting a picture of the above smartphone model and saying it will be made of Grade 304 stainless steel, which he describes as having strong resistance to rust and corrosion, and is extremely malleable but tough.

This would be a huge step forward for the Android device maker, which has so far been manufacturing only plastic devices, but has made a name for itself selling smartphones packed with high-end specs at lower prices than its peers, including Samsung and HTC.

Rumors have been circulating which say that the Mi 4 is likely to boast a 5-inch 1080p screen, and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. It is said to come equipped with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera and a 13-megapixel rear camera, and will retail for CNY1,999 ($322).
