Windows phones give you the ability to create your own ringtones from audio tracks. In this article, you will learn how to use a music track as ringtone for Windows 7, 8, or 10 Mobile.
Windows 10 Mobile
To change the ringtone on Windows 10 Mobile, select Start > Search > This Computer. In Devices and Drives, double-click Phone, and then tap Ringtones. Drag the audio file to the Sound folder.
Then, on your phone, go to Settings > Customise > Sounds. Select the newly imported file to set it as your ringtone.
Windows Phone 8
To use a music track as a ringtone with a Windows Phone 8, you first need to download and install the Windows Phone app to your computer. Next, connect your phone to the computer via USB, click Ringtones, select the song that you want to use as ringtone, and click Add.
Unplug your phone once synchronization is complete, and go to Settings > Ringtones + Sounds. Now, simply select the ringtone that you want to use.
Windows Phone 7
If you want to use a music track as a ringtone with a Windows Phone 7, make sure that the track is in the WMA or MP3 format, has a maximum duration of 40 seconds, is less than 1 MB, and doesn't come with DRM protection.
To use a music track stored on your computer, you must download and use the Zune software. Once installed, connect your phone to the computer via USB and Zune will open automatically.
Next, select the song that you want to use as ringtone, and sync it with your phone. Disconnect your phone from the computer, and go to Applications > Settings > Ringtones + Sounds. Now, select the newly added ringtone.
You also have the option to create a ringtone with Zune. To convert a song to a ringtone, choose the song that you want to convert, right-click on it, and click Edit > Ringtone > OK.
