BlackBerry today announced its plans to host an invite-only events in Toronto, London and Dubai on September 24. The company wouldn’t reveal what it plans to unveil, though it is using the tagline “See The Bigger Picture.”
Our best guess is the company is planning to debut the BlackBerry Passport, a smartphone with a square 4.5-inch 1440×1440 pixel display. Almost everything has already been detailed about the device, meaning it won’t be much of a big reveal, but the event does align with BlackBerry CEO John Chen statements for a September launch.
You can pre-order Microsoft’s Kinect for Windows now for $199 ahead of its July 15 launch
Microsoft’s online stores in the US and UK have seemingly confirmed that its next-generation motion sensing Kinect 2 device will be available for Windows PCs beginning next week.
Although we knew it was on the way , we weren’t sure exactly when Microsoft would start offering the device to a wider audience. Now it seems we have that answer – it will go on sale from July 15 priced at $199 in the US and £159 in the UK . Pre-orders are open now.
Originally conceived and launched as part of Microsoft’s Xbox gaming console, the original Kinect was recognized as offering interesting touch-free system control opportunities for Windows users away from the console. The newer version offers a better camera, among other tweaks. Microsoft notes, however, that the unit arrives without any software and is intended to be used with the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0 and will only work with apps designed specifically for it.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active is a rugged new tablet aimed at businesses
Among the hullabaloo of Windows Phone and HTC at IFA in Berlin today, Samsung managed to sneak out yet another tablet.
Samsung says the Galaxy Tab Active has been built specifically with businesses in mind, which basically means a focus on security and other enterprise-friendly functions. It’s also been ‘ruggedized’, to make it a little more durable. Indeed, Samsung says the anti-shock casing can tolerate a drop from 1.2 meters, and is also water and dust ‘resistant’, so no immersive baths with this badboy.
Interestingly, Samsung says it worked closely with a range of Fortune 500 firms, with advisory group workshops helping to inform the tablet’s design.
At IFA last year, Samsung announced the commercial availability of KNOX , designed to protect devices if they are corrupted or stolen. As such, the Galaxy Tab Active supports KNOX, which will be a key appeal to firms looking to safeguard apps and data.
Additionally, Samsung’s C-Pen stylus is attached to the Active’s cover, which the company says will appeal specifically to business professionals who have to wear gloves (e.g. on a construction site).
