Amazon Echo might soon help you find your lost keys
Amazon’s Echo voice-activated speaker is great for playing music, checking on the day’s weather forecast and ordering items at home without pushing a button. Soon, it might even help you track down your elusive car keys.
Reuters reports that the ecommerce giant is investing between $250,000 and $500,000 in TrackR . The company makes a coin-sized Bluetooth-enabled device that lets you find anything it’s attached to, like your keys or wallet, by following its location on the companion app on your phone.
According to Reuters, the new partnership will let people find their lost items via the Echo, and give the TrackR service a voice response capability. Of course, you’ll need a TrackR to begin with – they’re currently available at $29.99 apiece.
The investment in TrackR is part of Amazon’s $100 million Alexa Fund which is chalked out for technologies that build on the company’s cloud-based voice assistant software.
The new capability should help to make Amazon’s line of voice-activated devices more attractive to existing customers and potential buyers alike. Earlier this year, Echo gained features like the ability to announce movie times and live NFL scores , control your Nest thermostat and add events to Google Calendar .
We’ve contacted Amazon and TrackR to learn more and will update this post if there’s a response.
Asus’ Zen Pad S is available now in the US
Asus’ new ZenPad S 8.0 tablet is available now at Best Buy for $199.99.
Asus had launched the tablet at Computex in early June, but the company had not divulged the price or release date.
Designed as an on-the-go tablet that could offer a lower-cost alternative to the iPad mini, the Zen Pad S 8.0 weighs 10.51 ounces (298 grams) and is 0.25 inches (6.6mm) thick.
The ZenPad S 8.0 runs Android 5.0 (Lollipop) on an 8-inch 2048×1536 display and is powered by a quad-core Atom Z3530 processor.
The tablet includes both a 5-megapixel rear and a 2-megapixel front camera, 32GB of storage and a microSD slot. The model available today has 2GB of RAM. Battery life is eight hours.
Asus announced various versions of the ZenPad S 8.0 — 2GB and 4GB of RAM and 16GB, 32GB and 64GB of storage. However, Best Buy is offering the 2GB version of the tablet that has 32GB of internal storage.
Users can extend the memory of the tablet to an additional 128GB with a microSD card.
